Denham Springs Man Pleads Guilty to Negligent Homicide Following 2013 Fatal Car Crash

On February 14, 2017, Travis Parent of Denham Springs, LA., age 27, pled guilty to the charge of Negligent Homicide. Parent was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Shawn Bush, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Thomas Kliebert. This guilty plea stems from a 2013 car crash which resulted in the death of Audrey Wells, age 87, of Gonzales, LA.

On January 15, 2013, Louisiana State Police was dispatched to a two vehicle crash with injuries near the intersection of Hwy 931 and Joe Sevario Rd. in Gonzales. Troopers determined that Parent was traveling Westbound on Hwy 931 in a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado while Wells was traveling Southbound on Joe Sevario Rd in a 1993 Lincoln town car. As both vehicles were approaching the intersection, Parent was distracted by his cellular phone and failed to stop at a posted stop sign and struck the front driver side portion of Well’s vehicle. Wells was pronounced dead on scene. Parent was arrested and transported to the Ascension Parish jail where he was booked accordingly.

Per Judge Kliebert, sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.
