On August 7, 2017, Allen Causey of 38285 Josh Brown Rd. Prairieville, LA., age 41, pled guilty to the charges of Illegal Carrying of Weapons, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Distribution of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance. Causey was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lindsey Manda, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following a 2016 narcotics investigation.
On December 7, 2016, narcotics detectives with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Bishop Woods neighborhood located in Prairieville after observing a traffic violation. While approaching the vehicle, detectives observed the driver of the vehicle to be nervous and attempting to discard a quantity of heroin. During the stop, detectives learned that the subject had just left the residence of Allen Causey where the heroin was purchased. The subject identified Causey as the individual who sold the heroin and subsequently identified Causey in a photo line-up. Based on this information, a warrant of arrest was issued for Causey for Distribution of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance. An additional warrant was issued for the search of Causey’s residence on Josh Brown Rd.
On December 9, 2016, narcotics detectives executed the search warrant on Causey’s residence. Upon the arrival of detectives, a male subject later identified as Causey ran into the residence and out of the back door. Several other subjects at the residence were detained and subsequently arrested for narcotics possession. One of the subjects inside of the residence identified Causey as the subject who ran from the residence.
During a search of Causey’s residence, detectives located quantities of marijuana, crack cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, and items used for packaging and sale of illegal narcotics. Detectives also located a hand gun in Causey’s bedroom near his identification card.
As a result of the search of Causey’s residence, an additional warrant of arrest was issued for Causey. Causey was subsequently entered into NCIC as a wanted person. Causey was located and arrested several months later.
Upon entering a guilty plea to the above mentioned charges, as per the plea agreement with prosecutors, Judge Stromberg ordered that Causey be committed to the Louisiana Department of Corrections for a total of 20 years at hard labor with credit for time served. On the charge of Illegal Carrying of Weapons, Causey was sentenced to 15 years at hard labor with credit for time served. On the charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Distribution of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, Causey was sentenced to 20 years at hard labor with credit for time served on each count. On the charge of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, Causey was sentenced to 10 years at hard labor with credit for time served. It was ordered that the imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another.
