Bayou L’Ourse Man Indicted for 2nd Degree Murder Following July Deadly Shooting

     

        On October 11, 2023, an Assumption Parish Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment on 52-year-old Joseph Gilchrist of Bayou L’Ourse for 2nd Degree Murder. This indictment comes after the shooting death of 40-year-old Antanacio Guerrero, also of Bayou L’Ourse. 

          On July 2, 2023, Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a Bayou L’Ourse residence in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located a male subject, identified as Antanacio Guerrero, deceased inside the residence with multiple apparent gunshot wounds to his body. Detectives processed the scene and conducted interviews of several witnesses who were present on scene. Detectives learned that Gilchrist, Guerrero, and other individuals were conversating when Gilchrist drew a firearm and fired multiple shots at Guerrero striking him ultimately resulting in his death. Gilchrist, who remained on scene, was arrested, and transported to the Assumption Parish Detention Center where he was booked accordingly. 

          Joseph Gilchrist remains incarcerated with a $500,000 bond. Gilchrist is set to appear for arraignment on November 13, 2023. Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney is the lead prosecutor on this case.
