SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of November 13 – November 17, 2023, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

  1. Dashawn Winfrey, 210 W 5th Donaldsonville, LA, age 19, pled guilty to Theft of a Motor Vehicle and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Phil Maples, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin. 

  1. Izely Crowley, 11314 Boardwalk Dr. Baton Rouge, LA, age 34, pled guilty to Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. William Waits, 1624 N Cedar Ave. Gonzales, LA, age 37, pled guilty to Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Forgery. The defendant was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Jacobe Chatman, 38316 Cornerview Rd. Gonzales, LA, age 20, pled guilty to Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities and Aggravated Assault with a Firearm. The defendant was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Leila Braswell and Kristin Tregre. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets. 

Assumption Parish: 

  1. Lawrence Thomas, 109 Alvin St. Napoleonville, LA, age 78, pled guilty to Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, and Aggravated Assault with a Firearm. The defendant was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Nicholas Massoletti, 173 Felicia St. Morgan City, LA, age 38, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Devonte Guilfo, 5379 Hwy 1 Napoleonville, LA, age 28, pled guilty to Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities (6 counts) and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Tyrone Wilson, 113 Raymon St. Houma, LA, age 38, pled guilt to Monetary Instrument Abuse and Theft Valued at $1,000 or More, but Less than $5,0000. The defendant was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Steve Simoneaux, 3579 Hwy 1 Napoleonville, LA, age 65, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation. 
  1. Nelson Giroir Jr., 2568 Hwy 1 Thibodaux, LA, age 48, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg.    

St. James Parish: 

  1. Quan Sutherland, 3864 Florian Lane Vacherie, LA, age 21, pled guilty to Aggravated Flight from an Officer (2 counts) and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation. 

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Adam Koenig, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Steven Tureau.
