SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of September 16 – September 20, 2024, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish: 

  1. Demarkis Gamble, Forest Heights Subdivision Rd. Gonzales, LA, age 27, pled guilty to Illegal Carrying of Weapons/Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 36 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 36 months supervised probation. 

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Charles “Chuck” Long, Robin O’Bannon, and Kristin Tregre. Presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge John Smith. 

  1. Treyvon Covingston, 17098 W Willow Dr. Prairieville, LA, age 25, pled guilty to Simple Burglary, Theft of Livestock (3 counts), Attempted Theft of Livestock, and Aggravated Cruelty to Animals (4 counts). The defendant was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. In a separate matter, the defendant pled guilty to 2nd Degree Battery and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. The said sentences are to run concurrent with one another. 
  1. Terrance Jacob, 225 Homewood Place Reserve, LA, age 46, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.                                                                                                                                                                                                             
  2. Daniel Jones, 2926 Brady St. Baton Rouge, LA, age 37, pled guilty to Theft of a Firearm and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Kaylip Mangum, 13200 Depen St. Gonzales, LA, age 29, pled guilty to Failure to Comply with Provisions of Supervised Release and Theft of a Motor Vehicle. The defendant was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Dwight Randolph, 1926 Duel St. New Orleans, LA, age 26, pled guilty to Aggravated Flight from an Officer and Theft of a Motor Vehicle. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Semori Riley, 1235 S Willow St. Gramercy, LA, age 31, pled guilty to Aggravated Flight from an Officer and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation. 
  1. Travis Broadwater, 2009 LeBoeuf St. New Orleans, LA, age 34, pled guilty to Attempted Illegal Possession of Stolen Things Valued at $5,000 or More, but Less than $25,000 and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Tracy Gordon, 103 B Magnolia Garden Vacherie, LA, age 34, pled guilty to Aggravated Cruelty to Animals and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 1-year supervised probation. 
  1. Timothy Vessel, 1725 Raver Lane Sunshine, LA, age 37, pled guilty to Theft Valued at $1,000 or More, but Less than $5,000 (2 counts) and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Terry Bercegeay, 4490 Penny St. Saint Amant, LA, age 42, pled guilty to Simple Criminal Damage to Property Valued at $5,000 or More, but Less than $50,000 and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Adam Koenig, Lana Chaney, and Leila Braswell. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Steven Tureau. 

  1. Gilbert Johnson, 10313 Odilin Rd. Kaplan, LA, age 22, pled guilty to Forgery, Bank Fraud, and Monetary Instrument Abuse. The defendant was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Rhesa Pointer, 5420 Madison Ave Baton Rouge, LA, age 42, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Illegal Use of Weapons, and Aggravated Battery. The defendant was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation. 
  1. Phillip Rouyea, 43210 Norwood Rd. Gonzales, LA, age 46, pled guilty to Residential Contractor Fraud and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Madisyn Andrews, 6712 Pebble Beach Plano, TX, age 24, pled guilty to Aggravated Flight from an Officer and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Charles Arnold, 21099 Hwy 22 Holden, LA, age 37, pled guilty to Unauthorized Use of a Movable and was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. James Baloney, Donaldsonville, LA, age 45, pled guilty to Failure to Register and Notify as a Sex Offender or Child Predator and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Jeffery Wintz, 27376 Oak Crest Ct. Folsom, LA, age 38, pled guilty to Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling and Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property. The defendant was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Mike Brown, 37348 Hwy 30 Geismar, LA, age 29, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Aggravated Flight from an Officer. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Casey Harris, 1033 Nolan St. Donaldsonville, LA, age 30, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (2 counts), Aggravated Battery, and Aggravated Assault with a Firearm. The defendant was sentenced to 7 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. David Harris, 15316 Ariana Ave Prairieville, LA, age 54, pled guilty to Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile and was sentenced to 7 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant must register and notify as a sex offender or child predator. 
  1. Robert Smith, 42553 Hwy 42 Prairieville, LA, age 59, pled guilty to Domestic Abuse Battery Involving Strangulation and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Jimmy Madere Jr., 715 W Worthey Rd. Gonzales, LA, age 46, pled guilty to Cyberstalking and was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
