Vacherie Man Found Guilty in Connection with 2021 Deadly Shooting

           On Friday, a St. James Parish Jury found 22-year-old Maurice Honor Jr. of 22777 Kilmer St. Vacherie, LA, guilty of 1st Degree Murder, Attempted 1st Degree Murder, and Attempted Armed Robbery. Honor was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Adam Koenig and Bruce Mohon. Presiding over this matter is the Honorable Judge Cody Martin. 

          On November 4, 2021, St. James Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Vacherie area in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located 16-year-old David Harris of Vacherie, deceased in the passenger seat of a parked car. Detectives arrived and began processing the scene. Detectives learned that the shooting had occurred at another location, and the driver fled the area after the gunfire. Detectives learned that the occupants of the vehicle were seated in the car when approached by a subject pointing a gun through the window and demanding the occupants to give up everything they had on their persons. At this time the driver attempted to flee. At this time multiple gunshots were fired into the car. Detectives were able to identify Maurice Honor Jr. as a suspect in the shooting. Detectives obtained a warrant of arrest for Honor who was subsequently booked into the St. James Parish Jail. 

          Upon the jury returning a guilty verdict in this matter, sentencing was deferred to a later date. Maurice Honor Jr. faces a mandatory life sentence on the charge of 1st Degree Murder alone.
