Labadieville Man Sentenced to 7 Years for Illegal Drug Possession

On last week, Charles Patterson III of 133 Violet St. Labadieville, LA, age 43, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. Patterson was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Keyojuan Turner. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following a 2021 traffic stop.

On December 2, 2021, an Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a traffic stop after observing the driver of a vehicle commit a traffic violation. The deputy made contact with the driver of the vehicle who was identified as Charles Patterson III. While speaking to Patterson, a strong odor of marijuana was detected emitting from the vehicle. Patterson attempted to re-enter the vehicle and began reaching around inside of the vehicle. The deputy attempted to detain Patterson who engaged in a brief foot pursuit. Patterson was detained and a K-9 deputy was contacted. An open air-sniff around the vehicle was conducted by the K-9 which resulted in a positive alert for the presence of narcotics. During a search of the interior of the vehicle, deputies located large quantities of various types of narcotics including methamphetamine. Patterson was evaluated at an area hospital and ultimately transported to the Assumption Parish Detention Center where he was booked accordingly.

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charge, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, Patterson was sentenced to 7 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
