Gonzales Man Pleads Guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon

On July 22, 2025, Jeremiah Preston of 15095 Crossover Dr. Gonzales, LA, age 23, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Preston was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Adam Koenig, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Steven Tureau. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following the 2023 shooting death of 21-year-old Tyree Parker of Donaldsonville.

On October 27, 2023, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of shots fired near the Donaldsonville High School football stadium. Responding deputies observed a blue Ford Mustang, driven by Malik Fowler, attempting to leave the area of the shooting. Fowler was detained pending further investigation, and two male subjects were transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for apparent gunshot wounds. Tyree Parker was pronounced dead a short while later. Detectives processed the scene and obtained a video of the shooting. In the video, Malik Fowler was observed to be in the driver seat of the blue Ford Mustang when a male subject punches Fowler through the driver side window. Malik Fowler could be seen exiting the vehicle and walking up to a crowd before firing multiple shots from a handgun striking Tyree Parker and another individual. Malik Fowler, who had been transported to the Ascension Parish Jail in connection with a fight prior to the shooting, was ultimately charged in connection with the shooting.

Several Days following the shooting, detective received information indicating that Jeremiah Preston was in Malik Fowler’s vehicle immediately before the shooting. Detectives received additional information indicating that Preston picked up the murder weapon following the shooting, fled the area on foot, and discarded of the firearm. Detectives were able to obtain video footage and a social media conversation involving Preston which corroborated the information provided to detectives. Preston, who has a prior felony conviction for Attempted Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana was ultimately arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charge, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, Jeremiah Preston was sentenced to 15 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

Malik Fowler who previously pled guilty to Manslaughter, remains incarcerated awaiting sentencing.
