On Tuesday, Jeaon Pindexter of 38320 Josh Brown Rd. Gonzales, LA, age 18, pled guilty to Manslaughter and Obstruction of Justice. Pindexter was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Steven Tureau. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors in connection with a 2022 deadly shooting which claimed the life of 17-year-old Mekhi Darville. Pindexter, who was 16 years of age at the time of this incident, was prosecuted as an adult.
On November 11, 2022, officers with the Gonzales Police Department responded to an area convenience store in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival officers located Mekhi Darville suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Darville was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. During the course of an extensive investigation, Jeaon Pindexter was identified as a suspect in this incident. Pindexter was ultimately arrested for his involvement and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.
Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charges, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, Pindexter was sentenced to 60 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
