SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of October 16 – October 20, 2023, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish: 

  1. Jacorie Phillip, 3217 Vancouver St. Baton Rouge, LA, age 24, pled guilty to 2nd Degree Battery and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Jamar Stanfield, 2105 Turner St. Alexandria, LA, age 23, pled guilty to Simple Robbery and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation. 
  1. Jason Henry, 12524 Cooper Rd. St. Amant, LA, age 41, pled guilty to Theft Valued Over $1,000, but Less than $5,000 (2 counts) and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Leila Braswell and Jeff Heggelund. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Melvin Zeno. 

  1. Morris Joseph, 35127 Wilma Ln. Donaldsonville, LA, age 31, pled guilty to Domestic Abuse by Strangulation and Sexual Battery. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Bryan Ortego, 11888 Old Hammond Hwy Baton Rouge, LA, age 50, pled guilty to Simple Burglary (2 counts) and Theft of a Motor Vehicle. The defendant was sentenced to 8 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kristin Tregre, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Steven Tureau. 

Assumption Parish: 

Assumption Parish had no court news to report this week. 

St. James Parish: 

  1. Ramecca Gant, 1432 Second St. Lutcher, LA, age 39, pled guilty to Theft Valued More than $1,000, but Less than $5,000 and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.

 The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Bruce Mohon, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets.
