Donaldsonville Woman Found Guilty of Attempted 1st Degree Murder and Home Invasion

On last week, an Ascension Parish Jury found 44-year-old Peggy Valentine of 42 Vatican Dr. Donaldsonville, LA, guilty of Attempted 1st Degree Murder and Home Invasion. This guilty verdict comes after Valentine was on trial in connection with her involvement with a 2022 home invasion which led to the homeowner being stabbed. Valentine was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Brant Mayer, Kristin Tregre, and Phil Maples. Presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin.

On May 4, 2022, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a Donaldsonville residence in reference to a home invasion and stabbing. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the occupants of the home and learned that a female dressed in all black armed with a boxcutter made unauthorized entry into the home and stabbed the victim as she was asleep in her bed. Detectives responded where they canvassed the scene and conducted witness interviews. The female victim was transported to an area hospital where she was treated for multiple stab wounds. Although the victim was unable to identify the suspect, during an extensive investigation, detectives identified Peggy Valentine as a potential suspect. During an interview with detectives, Valentine ultimately confessed to making her way into the residence armed with two box cutters and stabbing the victim. Valentine was arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.

Upon the jury rendering a guilty verdict in this matter, sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. Sentencing is tentatively set for February 27, 2024. Valentine remains incarcerated in the Ascension Parish Jail without pending sentencing.

Valentine faces decades in state prison.
