SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of March 24 – March 28, 2025, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish: 

  1. Sherwin Pugh, 4718 Tigerland Ave. Baton Rouge, LA, age 37, pled guilty to Simple Burglary, Theft Valued at $1,000 or More, but Less than $5,000, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The defendant was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 5 years of the said sentence are to be served, and the remaining 5 years are to be suspended. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant is to be placed on 5 years supervised probation. 
  1. Phil Dumas, 2138 S Commerce Ave. Gonzales, LA, age 43, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Brant Mayer and Phil Maples. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin. 

Assumption Parish: 

  1. Jeremie Paul, 166 Ideal St. Belle Rose, LA, age 34, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 12 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 12 months supervised probation. 

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Daigle, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets. 

  1. Tyrone Rainey, 5937 Hwy 1 S Napoleonville, LA, age 50, pled guilty to Distribution, Manufacture, or Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance (2 counts), and Introducing or Possessing Contraband in any Municipal or Parish Prison, or Jail. The defendant was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 1-year supervised probation. 
  1. Kayla Gill, 116 Bertie St. Napoleonville, LA, age 32, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance (2 counts) and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation. 
  1. Avonte Jamison, 3229 Delaune St. Napoleonville, LA, age 30, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and place on 1-year supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Keyojuan Turner. 

St. James Parish: 

  1. Calvin Adams, 9335 Water Tower St. Convent, LA, age 24, pled guilty to Illegal Carrying of Weapons and Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 6 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Kendell Prembrook, 1912 Tiffany Dr. LaPlace, LA, age 24, pled guilty to Illegal Possession of Stolen Things and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Adam Koenig, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge John Smith.
