SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of March 17 – March 21, 2025, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish: 

  1. Kevin Melancon, 508 E Verna St. Gonzales, LA, age 70, pled guilty to DWI 3rd Offense and Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Steven Tureau. 

  1. Austin Bihm, 25559 Bob Hodges Rd. Holden, LA, age 21, pled guilty to Simple Burglary (7 counts) and Theft of a Firearm (2 counts). The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Heather McNeal, 27864 South Satsuma Livingston, LA, age 46, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Joshua Young, 39034 Bayou View Ave Gonzales, LA, age 22, pled guilty to Unauthorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwelling and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.                                         
  2. Kristen Dixon, 39327 Catoire Rd. Prairieville, LA, age 28, pled guilty to Unauthorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwelling and Resisting an Officer with Force or Violence. The defendant was sentenced to 6 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation. 
  1. Jerry Martin, 728 South Sammy St. Gonzales, LA, age 20, pled guilty to Theft of a Motor Vehicle Valued at $25,000 or More and Simple Burglary (2 counts). The defendant was sentenced to 12 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation. 
  1. Landen Rogers, 23879 Waterford Ct. Denham Springs, LA, age 22, pled guilty to Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property. The defendant was sentenced to 6 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Keona Henderson, 518 St. Patrick St. Donaldsonville, LA, age 24, pled guilty to Aggravated 2nd Degree Battery and was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Leila Braswell and Jeff Heggelund. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Keyojuan Turner. 

  1. Antonio Coco, 15030 Beau Jon Ave Prairieville, LA, age 44, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance (3 counts), Illegal Carrying of Weapons/Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Illegal Possession of Stolen Goods Valued at $1,000 or More, but Less than $5,000. The defendant was sentenced to 15 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Christopher Gradney, 1114 E Sybil Rd. Gonzales, LA, age 33, pled guilty to Distribution, Manufacture, or Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, Distribution, Manufacture, or Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance (3 counts), and Distribution, Manufacture, or Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 15 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Robin O’Bannon and Kenneth Dupaty. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge John Smith. 

Assumption Parish: 

Assumption Parish had no court news to report this week. 

St. James Parish: 

  1. Richard Hill, 6221 Badeaux St. Convent, LA, age 50, pled guilty to DWI 3rd Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.
