Last week, Malik Fowler of 912 S Abe Ave. Gonzales, LA, age 23, pled guilty to Manslaughter. Fowler was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Adam Koenig, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Steven Tureau. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors in connection with a 2023 shooting which claimed the life of 21-year-old Tyree Parker, also of Donaldsonville, and injured another subject.
On October 27, 2023, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of shots fired near the Donaldsonville High School football stadium. Responding deputies observed a blue Ford Mustang, driven by Malik Fowler, attempting to leave the area of the shooting. Fowler was detained pending further investigation, and two male subjects were transported to a nearby hospital to be treated for apparent gunshot wounds. Tyree Parker was pronounced dead a short while later. Detectives processed the scene and obtained a video of the shooting. In the video, Malik Fowler was observed to be in the driver seat of the blue Ford Mustang when a male subject punches Fowler through the driver side window. Malik Fowler could be seen exiting the vehicle and walking up to a crowd before firing multiple shots from a handgun striking Tyree Parker and another individual. Malik Fowler, who had been transported to the Ascension Parish Jail in connection with a fight prior to the shooting, was ultimately charged in connection with the shooting.
Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charge, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. Fowler faces up to 40 years in state prison.
