SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of November 3 – November 7, 2025, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

  1. Demone Jones, 1623 Jill St. Donaldsonville, LA, age 26, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 24 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 24 months supervised probation. 
  1. Joshua Beck, 4600 Burbank Dr. Baton Rouge, LA, age 31, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and Battery of Emergency Room Personnel, Emergency Services Personnel, or a Healthcare Professional (3 counts). The defendant was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation. 
  1. Andre Broussard, 310 Fieldcrest Pkwy Youngsville, LA, age 36, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance (2 counts), Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Brant Halker, 2138 S Commerce Ave Gonzales, LA, age 50, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 24 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 24 months supervised probation.                                 
  2. Samuel Shavers, 10726 Northdale Blvd Baton Rouge, LA, age 40, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 24 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 36 months supervised probation. 
  1. Jeremy Stephens, 39155 Lee Stephens Rd. Prairieville, LA, age 42, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute Fentanyl and was sentenced to 15 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 10 years of the said sentence are to be served, and the remaining 5 years are to be suspended. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant is to be placed on 3 years supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Charles “Chuck” Long, Robin O’Bannon, and Kenneth Dupaty. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge John Smith. 

Assumption Parish:

  1. Jamiah Harris, 139 Violet St. Thibodaux, LA, age 33, pled guilty to Aggravated Flight from an Officer and Distribution, Manufacture, or Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 2 years of the said sentence are to be served, and the remaining 3 years are to be suspended. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant is to be placed on 2 years supervised probation. 

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Daigle, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Steven Tureau.

St. James Parish: 

  1. Gene Dinino, 218 West 3rd Donaldsonville, LA, age 39, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Sayonna Davis, 550 Lee Dr. Baton Rouge, LA, age 22, pled guilty to Aggravated Battery and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation. 
  1. Harrold Perret, 6152 Pike 93 South Magnolia, MS, age 48, pled guilty to Negligent Homicide. Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Bruce Mohon, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Keyojuan Turner. 

  1. Devin Watkins, 24002 Colonial Pkwy Katy Station, TX, age 27, pled guilty to Bank Fraud and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Theron Martin, 437 N Montz Ave Gramercy, LA, age 22, pled guilty to Aggravated Flight from an Officer and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.
