Convent Man Pleads Guilty to Burglary and Weapon Charges

          On September 6, 2019, Dejohn Scott of 9140 Water Tower St. Convent, LA., age 23, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Simple Burglary (2 counts). Scott was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Leila Braswell, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following a series of burglaries. 

          Between April and August of 2018, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a series of vehicle and business burglaries all in close proximity of one another. During the course of an extensive investigation, detectives linked Dejohn Scott to the burglaries through DNA analysis. Scott who has previous felony convictions for burglary and criminal damage to property sold a firearm taken during one of the burglaries to an area pawn shop. Detectives obtained a warrant of arrest for Scott who was subsequently arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Detention Center.  

          Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charges, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, Scott was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
