Donaldsonville Man Sentenced on Drug Charges

          On January 13, 2017, James Miles of 502 Front St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 39, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance (2 counts) and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance. Miles was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lindsey Manda, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg. Per Judge Stromberg, sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. 

          On January 14, 2016, narcotics agents with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police executed a search warrant at the residence located at 502 Front St. Donaldsonville concluding a lengthy narcotics investigation into the distribution of illegal narcotics. Upon making entry into the residence, agents located James Miles in a bedroom. Agents detained Miles and conducted a pat-down search of his person for officer safety. During the pat-down, agents located a large amount of cash money in Mile’s pant pocket that was later seized. During a search of the residence, agents located quantities of Crack Cocaine, Methamphetamine, and Marijuana. Upon agents advising Miles of his Miranda Rights, Miles claimed that the narcotics were his and stated to agents “Yall know what I do, it’s for me”. Miles was subsequently charged and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail. 

          On May 1, 2017, James Miles appeared in court for sentencing. On the charge of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, Judge Stromberg ordered that Miles be committed to the Louisiana Department of Corrections for a period of 15 years at hard labor with credit for time served on each count. On the charge of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, Judge Stromberg ordered that Miles be committed to the Louisiana Department of Corrections for a period of 5 years at hard labor with credit for time served. It was further ordered that the imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another for a total of 15 years.
