During the week of December 19-December 23, 2016, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

During the week of December 19-December 23, 2016, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

1. Brockton Waguespack, 12133 Coueron Dr. St. Amant, LA., age 20, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and Aggravated Assault with a Firearm. On the charge of Simple Burglary, the defendant was sentenced to 8 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. On the charge of Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, the defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. The imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another. It was further ordered that the imposed sentences are to be suspended, and the defendant is to be placed on supervised probation for 5 years.

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Joni Buquoi, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jessie LeBlanc.

Assumption Parish:

1. Andrew Scott Jr., 106 Bertrand St. Napoleonville, LA., age 38, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 11 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that the first 2 years of the imposed sentence are to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.

2. Dustin Hebert, 128 Paul St. Pierre Part, LA., age 24, pled guilty to Simple Burglary (2 counts) and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Thomas Daigle and Lana Chaney. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Thomas Kliebert.

St. James Parish:

1. Ronald Chabaud, 39599 Arnaud St. Paulina, LA., age 43, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation.

2. Gerald Ealem, 407 Chetimatches St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 32, pled guilty to Attempted Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The defendant was sentenced to 8 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that the defendant must serve 5 years of the imposed sentence without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. The remaining 3 years are to be suspended. Upon release, the defendant is to be placed on 3 years supervised probation.
