SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of January 28-February 1, 2019, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

  1. David Rodriguez, Baton Rouge, LA., age 22, pled guilty to Illegal Possession of Stolen Things and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.
  2. Sidney Wells, 47371 Hwy 937 St. Amant, LA., age 64, pled guilty on August 27, 2018 to DWI 4th Offense. Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. On January 28, 2019, Judge Kliebert ordered that the defendant be sentenced to 15 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 2 years of the said sentence are to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. The remaining 13 years are to be suspended. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant is to be placed on 5 years supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Shawn Bush and Phil Maples. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Thomas Kliebert.

Assumption Parish:

  1. Davon Lewis, 108 Marshall Lane Napoleonville, LA., age 17, pled guilty to Resisting a Police Officer with Force or Violence and Illegal Possession of Stolen Things. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation.
  2. Dwayne Winley, 2625 St. Peter St. New Orleans, LA., age 45, pled guilty to False Imprisonment and Simple Criminal Damage to Property. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that the defendant is to serve 1 year of the said sentence, and the remaining 4 years are to be suspended. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant is to be placed on 4 years supervised probation.
  3. Travis Lang, 212 Telegraph St. Napoleonville, LA., age 31, pled guilty to Distribution of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, Distribution of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance (3 counts), and Illegal Possession of Stolen Firearms. The defendant was sentenced to 6 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count. The said sentences are to run concurrent with one another.
  4. John Grisaffe, 105 Anna St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 54, pled guilty to Illegal Carrying of Weapons and Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Alvin Turner Jr.  

  1. Luiz Ramirez, Pierre Part, LA., age 48, pled guilty to Attempted 2nd Degree Murder and Home Invasion. The defendant was sentenced to 20 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count. The said sentences are to run concurrent with one another and are to be served without benefit of probation, parole, or suspension of sentence.
  2. Rachel Daigle, 924 Belle River Rd. Pierre Part, LA., age 50, pled guilty to Home Invasion and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 1 year of the said sentence is to be served, and the remaining 2 years are to be suspended. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant is to be placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  3. Wilbert Caldwell, 120 Matthew St. Napoleonville, LA., age 30, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. The said sentence is to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
  4. Elray Domingue, 108 N Randy St. Pierre Part, LA., age 51, pled guilty to Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  5. Dontrell Landry, 276 Hwy 998 Belle Rose, LA., age 38, pled guilty to Distribution of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, Illegal Possession of Stolen Things, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The defendant was sentenced to 12 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. The said sentence is to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
  6. Ryan Bell, 328 Hwy 998 Belle Rose, LA., age 33, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. Formal sentencing will take place at a later date.
  7. Kermin Cavalier, 123 Substation St. Pierre Part, LA., age 38, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation.
  8. Christopher Brown, 123 Cecilia St. Morgan City, LA., age 46, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. Formal sentencing will take place at a later date.
  9. Danny Lauland, 963 St. Vincent Rd. Napoleonville, LA., age 37, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

 St. James Parish:

  1. Raynard McClelland, 2058 Fifth St. Lutcher, LA., age 31, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and Sale, Distribution, or Possession of a Legend Drug without Prescription or Order. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  2. Cody Roussel, 539 N Ezidore St. Gramercy, LA., age 29, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  3. On January 31, 2019, Burnell Gordon of 2445 N Central St. Lutcher, LA., age 37, was found guilty of Manslaughter and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.
