SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of May 15-May 19, 2017, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, Parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish: 

  1. Noe Castro, 2228 S Burnside Ave. Gonzales, LA., age 36, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  2. Brian Newell, 40404 Hwy 42 Prairieville, LA., age 38, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance (2 counts), Possession of a Legend Drug Without Prescription or Order, Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Illegal Carrying of Weapons. On the charge of Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of a Legend Drug Without Prescription or Order, and Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance, the defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count. On the charges of Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Illegal Carrying of Weapons, the defendant was sentenced to 6 months in the parish jail with credit for time served on each count. All of the imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another. The imposed sentence is to be suspended, and the defendant is to be placed on 5 years supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lindsey Manda, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg. 

  1. Jarmaine Gibson, 1407 McKinley St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 30, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 36 months supervised probation. 
  2. Wesley Contreras, Marrero, age 21, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation. 
  3. Monchel Nicholas, 35738 CoCo Rd. Geismar, LA., age 30, pled guilty to Illegal Possession of Stolen Things and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  4. Eric Troquille, 43160 Henderson Ln. Prairieville, LA., age 32, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 12 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  5. Jonathan Wood, 2830 Choctaw St. New Orleans, LA., age 28, pled guilty to Aggravated Flight From an Officer and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kenneth Dupaty, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Alvin Turner Jr.  

  1. Elmo Lambert, 45368 Gold Place Rd. St. Amant, LA., age 43, pled guilty to Attempted Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  2. Maria Aucoin, 15040 Claude Michael Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 27, pled guilty to Felony Theft, Simple Burglary, and Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended and placed on 3 years supervised probation on each count. It was further ordered that the imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another. 
  3. Jennifer Mcghee, age 30, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and was sentenced to 15 years at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. The imposed sentence is to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. 
  4. Michael Jones, 13457 Burnt Pecan Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 20, pled guilty to Simple Robbery and was sentenced to 7 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was further ordered that 6 years of the imposed sentence are to be suspended. The defendant must serve 1 year, and upon release is to be placed on 5 years supervised probation. 
  5. Joseph Derudder, 505 E Verna St. Gonzales, LA., age 61, pled guilty to DWI 4th Sentencing was deferred pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Joni Buquoi and Steven Tureau. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Jessie LeBlanc.

Assumption Parish: 

  1. Steven Blaine, 3328 Back Marais Ln. Napoleonville, LA., age 34, pled guilty to Simple Burglary (2 counts) and was sentenced to 4 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count. The imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another. 
  2. Kristie Blanchard, 2280 River Rd. Berwick, LA., age 39, pled guilty to Theft of a Firearm and was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.  
  3. Amber Stevens, 2471 Hwy 308 Labadieville, LA., age 22, pled guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Possession or Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution and was sentenced to 2 ½ years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 ½ years supervised probation.  
  4. Thomas Hughes, 264 Vivian St. Morgan City, LA., age 29, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count, to run concurrent with one another. The imposed sentence is to be suspended, and the defendant is to be placed on 3 years supervised probation.

St. James Parish: 

  1. Kollon Steib, 2324 Project Dr. Vacherie, LA., age 20, pled guilty to Negligent Homicide and was sentenced to 5 years at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  2. Matthew Cockburn, 1952 West Main St. Lutcher, LA. age 52, pled guilty to Theft Valued over $750, but Less than $5,000 and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation.  
  3. David Matt, 1620 Prairie Ronde Hwy. Opelousas, LA., age 50, pled guilty to Negligent Homicide and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  4. Duriel Dennis, 5427 Barras St. St. James, LA., age 34, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance (Methamphetamine) and was sentenced to 5 years at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation. 
  5. Dior Batiste, 23077 Pine St. Vacherie, LA., age 24, pled guilty to Possession of a Legend Drug and Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count to run concurrent with one another. It was further ordered that the imposed sentence is to be suspended, and the defendant is to be placed on 5 years supervised probation. 
  6. Malcolm Harry, 8888 Sunnyside Dr. Laplace, LA., age 20, pled guilty 2nd Degree Battery and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation. 
  7. Wayne Nelson, 7283 Paul Nelson St. St. James, LA., age 56, pled guilty to Unauthorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwelling and was sentenced to 12 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 12 months supervised probation. 
  8. Jeffery Puglise, Biloxi MS., age 31, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.
