SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of May 22-May 26, 2017, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, Parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish: 

  1. Cyril Ezumezo, 1223 N Coolidge Ave. Gonzales, LA., age 30, pled guilty on February 14, 2017 to the charges of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance. Sentencing was deferred to May 22, 2017. On the charge of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, the defendant was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. This sentence is to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. On the charge of Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, the defendant was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was further ordered that the imposed sentences are to run concurrent with one another. 
  2. Frank Nelson, 7543 Tricia Ct. New Orleans, LA., age 60, pled guilty on February 15, 2017 to the charge of Bank Fraud. Sentencing was deferred pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. On May 22, 2017, the defendant was sentenced to 5 years at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was further ordered that Nelson pay restitution to the victim in the amount of $2,761.92. 
  3. Pamela Cannon, 14180 Bourque Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 57, pled guilty to Violation of a Protective Order and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation. 
  4. Latoya Christmas, 24740 Palermo St. Plaquemine, LA., age 25, pled guilty to Issuing Worthless Checks and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation. It was further ordered that the defendant is to pay restitution to the victim. 
  5. Delynn Ricks, 909 S Abe Ave. Gonzales, LA., age 23, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance on February 14, 2017. Sentencing was deferred pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. On May 22, 2017, the defendant was sentenced to 5 years at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Shawn Bush and Phil Maples. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Thomas Kliebert. 

Assumption Parish: 

  1. Trent Wilson, 139 Shane St. Pierre Part, LA., age 24, pled guilty to Public Intimidation and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 15 months supervised probation. 

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Alvin Turner Jr.  

St. James Parish: 

  1. Eric Sanchez, 102 Rider Ln. Labadieville, LA., age 38, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  2. Kelly Brown, 205 St. Patrick St. Raceland, LA., age 20, pled guilty to Aggravated Battery and was sentenced to 7 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
