SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of October 15-October 19, 2018, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

  1. Justin Norrick, 36208 Greenleaf Ct. Prairieville, LA., age 43, pled guilty to Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  2. Dawn Coppenbarge, 307 E Nell St. Gonzales, LA., age 37, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 4 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  3. Allen Williams III, 912 Maginnis St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 22, pled guilty to Simple Arson and was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  4. Christopher Zachary, 13232 George Rouyeau Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 22, pled guilty to Monetary Instrument Abuse and was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Kenneth Dupaty and Steven Tureau. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Alvin Turner.

  1.  Mark Rodgers, 40235 Hwy 42 Prairieville, LA., age 30, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 24 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 24 months supervised probation.
  2. Jarmel Holmes, 43466 Hwy 42 Prairieville, LA., age 32, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule I controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  3. Marlon Bennett, 1712 W Hwy 30 Gonzales, LA., age 45, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 4 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Charles “Chuck” Long, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg.

  1. Brandi Villar, 8456 New River Rd. St. Amant, LA., age 48, pled guilty to Felony Theft and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Joni Buquoi, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jessie LeBlanc.

Assumption Parish:

Assumption Parish had no court news to report this week.

St. James Parish:

  1. Yancy Savant, 176 W Airline Hwy Kenner, LA., age 23, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  2. Ryan Harry, 12962 Forrestal St. Vacherie, LA., age 47, pled guilty to 2nd Degree Battery and was sentenced to 7 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. The defendant is to serve 2 years of the said sentence, and the remaining 5 years are to be suspended. Upon release, the defendant is to be placed on 5 years supervised probation.
