Geismar Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Illegal Drug and Weapon Possession

          Last week, Kevin Lazo of 12399 Alex King Rd. Geismar, LA., age 24, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, Illegal Use of a Controlled Dangerous Substance in the Presence of Minors (2 counts), Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance (2 counts), Illegal Possession of Stolen Firearms, Illegal Carrying of Weapons, and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule III Controlled Dangerous Substance. Lazo was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Charles “Chuck” Long, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg.

          On September 25, 2018, narcotics agents with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office were attempting to locate a subject identified as Kevin Lazo, who had warrants for his arrest stemming from a previous narcotics investigation. While working in the Prairieville area, agents observed a male subject pull into a store parking lot and park next to the vehicle driven by Lazo. Agents observed a male subject exit the vehicle, remove a black bag from the trunk, and get into Lazo’s vehicle. Agents approached the vehicle and detained the subjects. In plain view, agents observed the black bag which was open at the time, to contain a large quantity of marijuana. Lazo and the second subject who was identified as Irvin Green were placed into patrol cars. While agents were conducting a search of the interior of Green’s vehicle, Green was able to escape from the patrol car. Agents gave chase and apprehended him a short distance away. In Green’s vehicle, agents located a quantity of methamphetamine, heroin, and a handgun which had been reported stolen from East Baton Rouge Parish. Both subjects were transported to the Ascension Parish Detention Center where they were booked accordingly.

          Following Lazo’s arrest, agents executed a search warrant at his home. During the search, agents located quantities of Xanax, Amphetamine, Cocaine, a digital scale, and a stolen handgun. Lazo was booked on additional charges pursuant to the search warrant.

          Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charges, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, Lazo was sentenced to 8 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

          Irvin Green previously pled guilty in connection with this matter and received a 5-year prison sentence.
