Gonzales Man Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter in Connection with 2016 Deadly Shooting

On April 16, 2024, Jarvis McNair of 1942 S Ringer Ave Gonzales, LA, age 33, pled guilty to Manslaughter. McNair was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Phil Maples, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors in connection with the 2016 shooting death of 36-year-old Shondrica Dejoie, also of Gonzales.

On July 5, 2016, Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the intersection of HWY 22 and Interstate 10 in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located Shondrica Dejoie in the driver seat of her vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the face. Dejoie was transported to an area hospital where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries. When deputies arrived on scene, a male subject who was identified as Jarvis McNair, was administering CPR after calling 911 to report the shooting. McNair was detained pending further investigation. Following an extensive investigation, detectives learned that McNair was chasing Dejoie’s vehicle before positioning his vehicle blocking the interstate on ramp. After blocking Dejoie’s vehicle, McNair exited his vehicle and approached the driver side window of Dejoie’s vehicle. The two engaged in a verbal argument moments before McNair brandished a firearm and fired one shot into the vehicle striking Dejoie. McNair gave multiple statements regarding the events leading to Dejoie’s death, however, admitted to firing a handgun striking Dejoie. McNair was subsequently arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charge, sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. Sentencing is tentatively set for August 13, 2024. McNair faces up to 40 years in state prison.
