Gramercy Man Found Guilty of Forcible Rape

On Wednesday, a St. James Parish Jury found 47-year-old Kendall Johnson of 226 East 14th St. Gramercy, LA, guilty of Forcible Rape. Johnson was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Adam Koenig and Lana Chaney. Presiding over this matter is the Honorable Judge John Smith.

On April 5, 2014, St. James Parish Sheriff’s Detectives responded to a Gramercy residence in reference to a sexual assault. Detectives learned that while visiting a family member, a 14-year-old juvenile female was brutally sexually assaulted by another individual inside the residence who she knew as Kendall Johnson. Detectives were able to obtain evidence confirming the juvenile’s account of the incident. A warrant of arrest was issued for Johnson who was arrested and booked into the St. James Parish Jail. After posting bond following the initial arrest, Johnson failed to appear in court and remained out with a bench warrant for a substantial amount of time. Johnson was arrested on the bench warrant and held until this week’s trial.

Upon the jury returning a guilty verdict in this matter, sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. Johnson faces between 5 and 40 years in state prison and remains incarcerated awaiting sentencing. Sentencing is tentatively set for July 27, 2026.
