Labadieville Man Pleads Guilty to Multiple Drug Charges

          On July 23, 2018, Tyrone Scott Jr. of 120 Rose St. Labadieville, LA., age 32, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, Conspiracy to Commit Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Conspiracy to Commit Possession or Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution. Scott was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Alvin Turner Jr. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following separate arrests. 

          On June 13, 2016, narcotics agents with the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at a Labadieville residence as part of an on-going narcotics investigation. Upon making entry into the residence, agents located Tyrone Scott Jr. who was detained. During a search of the residence, agents located a .38 caliber pistol along with a variety of illegal narcotics including marijuana, cocaine, heroin, prescription pills, and ecstasy. Agents also located miscellaneous items associated with the distribution of illegal narcotics. Scott was subsequently arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center.  

          On March 17, 2017, narcotics agents with the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the parish jail after jail staff received a suspicious package that had been dropped off for an inmate who through investigation was identified as Tyrone Scott Jr. Agents observed a bottle of skin lotion which had been tampered with prior to its arrival. The seal had been broken and the stem of the bottle had been cut. After further inspection of the bottle, agents located finger slots from surgical gloves submerged in the lotion containing tobacco and illegal narcotics including heroin. The subject who dropped off the package was identified as Demetric Nelson Jr. Nelson was subsequently arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center. Scott was also charged after conspiring with Nelson to get these items into the jail. 

          Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charges, as per the plea agreement with prosecutors, Scott was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. On May 7, 2018, Demetric Nelson received a 5-year prison sentence.
