Laplace Man Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison for Illegal Firearm Possession

          On July 15, 2019, Darnell Robertson Jr. of 8784 Houma Dr.,  Laplace, LA., age 28, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Robertson was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Bruce Mohon, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following a 2018 traffic stop. 

          On August 3, 2018, narcotics agents with the St. James Parish Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the Lutcher area after observing a traffic violation. Upon making contact with the occupants inside the vehicle, agents conducted a search of the vehicle. During the search, agents located a quantity of marijuana and several firearms. One of the firearms was located in the possession of the driver of the vehicle, Darnell Robertson Jr. Robertson who has a prior felony conviction for narcotics possession was subsequently arrested and booked into the St. James Parish Detention Center.  

          Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charge, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.

          On August 19, 2019, Robertson appeared before Judge Verdigets for sentencing. Judge Verdigets ordered that Robertson be committed to the Louisiana Department of Corrections for a period of 5 years with credit for time served.
