On September 29, 2022, Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Cane Row Truck Stop and Casino in reference to an armed robbery. Upon arrival deputies cleared the building and escorted witnesses and victims to safety outside. Detectives arrived and processed the scene. Detectives learned that multiple masked subjects armed with handguns and long guns entered the business and demanded money from both patrons and employees. Shortly after, all subjects exited the business and fled the area with a large amount of US Currency. During the course of an extensive and lengthy investigation, detectives were able to identify all suspects involved. With the assistance of numerous agencies, multiple search warrants were executed, and all suspects were apprehended across multiple jurisdictions. All suspects were transported and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center where they have remained incarcerated.
Between March and November of 2024, all suspects charged in connection with this matter have pled guilty and been sentenced.
- Jonathan Lopez, 1157 Orange Blossom Lane Gretna, LA, age 19, pled guilty to Armed Robbery and was sentenced to 25 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
- Hector Barahona, 2322 Lapeyrousse St. New Orleans, LA, age 22, pled guilty to Armed Robbery and was sentenced to 25 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
- Norman Escalate-Guidel, 549 Dunbar Place Gretna, LA, age 19, pled guilty to Armed Robbery and was sentenced to 25 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
- Brayan Chinchilla-Pacheco, 1149 Tallow Tree Lane Harvey, LA, age 20, pled guilty to Armed Robbery and was sentenced to 25 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
- Roller Avila, 35488 Preston Lane Donaldsonville, LA, age 20, pled guilty to Armed Robbery and was sentenced to 40 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 27 years of the said sentence are to be served, and the remaining 13 years are to be suspended. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant is to be placed on 3 years supervised probation.
- Jose Gordillo, 115 ½ Wisteria Dr. Hattiesburg, MS, age 20, pled guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Armed Robbery and was sentenced to 20 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
- Alex Castro, 1644 Alexander Ct. Gretna, LA, age 19, pled guilty to Theft Valued at $1,000 or More, but Less than $5,000 and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
The above mentioned defendants were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney.
