Saint Amant Man Sentenced to 9 Years for Exploitation of the Infirmed

On Monday, Tregg Babin of 42432 Weber City Rd. Saint Amant, LA, age 57, pled guilty to Exploitation of the Infirmed. Babin was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Steven Tureau. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors after Babin stealing from an elderly victim suffering from dementia.

On May 11, 2025, deputies with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a theft complaint. Deputies learned that an elderly family member of Babin who suffered from dementia had loaned Babin money after being released from jail to assist Babin with living expenses. Babin ultimately without authorization withdrew a substantial additional amount of money from the victim’s bank account. Deputies obtained an arrest warrant for Babin. Babin was arrested and transported to the Ascension Parish Jail where he was booked accordingly. At the time of this arrest, Babin was on active felony probation for a previous theft conviction.

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charge, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, Tregg Babin was sentenced to 9 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served
