Baton Rouge Man Sentenced for Illegal Firearm Possession

          On February 24, 2025, Rayshawn Rogers of 1659 Blanchy Ct. Baton Rouge, LA, age 24, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Rogers was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Adam Koenig, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge John Smith. 

          On December 5, 2022, a St. James Parish Sheriff’s Deputy patrolling the area of the LA 70 Service Rd. near LA 44, observed the driver of a vehicle commit a traffic violation. The deputy initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle. During the stop, deputies made contact with Rayshawn Rogers who had a firearm concealed in his waistband. Rogers, who was determined to be a convicted felon at the time of the stop, was arrested and transported to the St. James Parish Jail where he was booked accordingly. 

          Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charge, sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. 

        On May 27, 2025, Rogers appeared before Judge Smith for sentencing. Rogers was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
