SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of May 26 – May 30, 2025, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

 Ascension Parish: 

  1. Diamond Percy, 5905 Carpenter Rd. Gonzales, LA, age 28, pled guilty to Theft Valued at $1,000 or More, but Less than $5,000 and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Jirah Simmons, 4263 Dawson Dr. Baton Rouge, LA, age 28, pled guilty to Theft Valued at $1,000 or More, but Less than $5,000 and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Marques Lacey, 16451 Hardwood Dr. Prairieville, LA, age 42, pled guilty to Theft Valued at $1,000 or More, but Less than $5,000 and Felony Simple Criminal Damage to Property. The defendant was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Haley Gautreau, 2138 Commerce Ave. Gonzales, LA, age 31, pled guilty to Resisting an Officer with Force or Violence, Battery of a Police Officer (2 counts), and Simple Criminal Damage to Property. The defendant was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  
  2. James Remedies, 8334 Annie Oak Dr. Sorrento, LA, age 39, pled guilty to DWI 3rd Offense and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Bayron Escalante, 39226 Cambre Rd. Gonzales, LA, age 32, pled guilty to Illegal Use of Weapons and was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Phil Maples and Brant Mayer. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin. 

Assumption Parish: 

  1. Milo Wheeler, 46837 8th Bloomingdale, MI, age 63, pled guilty to Distribution, Manufacture, or Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation. 
  1. Dwayne Thomas Jr., 153 Peterville Lane Belle Rose, LA, age 36, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Phillip Breaux III, 224 Ewell St. Belle Rose, LA, age 41, pled guilty to Illegal Possession of Stolen Firearms and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Daigle, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets. 

St. James Parish: 

  1. Devanta Kennard, 2398 N Albert St. Lutcher, LA, age 27, pled guilty to Domestic Abuse Battery with Child Endangerment and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation. 
  1. Mickey Bicknell, 701 Betz Ave. New Orleans, LA, age 38, entered a No Contest plea to the charge of Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance (2 counts). Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. 
  1. On February 24, 2025, Rayshawn Rogers of 1659 Blanchy Ct. Baton Rouge, LA, age 24, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. On May 27, 2025, the defendant was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
