Ascension Parish Jury Finds Geismar Man Guilty of Illegal Firearm Possession

On May 16, 2018, an Ascension Parish jury found 58-year-old Kevin Darville of 36341 Candy Land Ln. Geismar, LA. guilty of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Darville was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Joni Buquoi, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets. This conviction stems from a 2016 disturbance in a Geismar neighborhood.

On August 15, 2016, deputies with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Hwy 74 near Candy Land Ln. after receiving reports of several male subjects arguing, one of which was armed with a shotgun. Upon arrival, deputies located two male subjects sitting in lawn chairs on the side of the roadway. As deputies approached, one of the subjects who was identified as Kevin Darville threw a shotgun over his shoulder into the grass behind him. Deputies searched the area where Darville was sitting and located the weapon which was identified as a 12-gauge shotgun. Darville told deputies that he was having problems with another individual when an acquaintance passed by in a truck and handed him the shotgun. Darville who has multiple prior felony convictions with the most recent being for Sexual Battery in 2002, was subsequently arrested and transported to the Ascension Parish Detention Center where he was booked accordingly.

Upon the jury rendering a guilty verdict in this matter, Judge Verdigets ordered that sentencing be deferred pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. Sentencing is tentatively set for June 11, 2018.
