Assumption Parish Man Indicted in Connection with 2020 Deadly Shooting

          On February 3, 2021, an Assumption Parish Grand Jury returned a True Bill of Indictment on Shontun Joseph of 160 A Freetown Lane Belle Rose, LA., age 19, on the charges of 2nd Degree Murder, Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities, and Aggravated 2nd Degree Battery.  

          On September 24, 2020, the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting on Freetown Lane in Belle Rose. Once on scene, deputies located three individuals suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The shooting claimed the life of 21-year-old Cameron Brooks of Baton Rouge. Also injured was a 51-year-old male subject along with an 11-year-old juvenile who were struck by gunfire while inside of a residence. These individuals were transported to a local hospital and were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Detectives were able to identify Shontun Joseph as the shooter and secure a warrant for his arrest. With assistance of the U.S. Marshall’s Office, Joseph was apprehended in Houston, Texas, and extradited back to Assumption Parish where he was booked into the Assumption Parish Jail.
