SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of January 25 – January 29, 2021, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

  1. Garland Cottingham, 12409 Alex Kling Rd. Geismar, LA., age 39, pled guilty to Stalking and was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  2. Seth Martin, 14167 Anna Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 41, pled guilty to Theft of a Motor Vehicle and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.  

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Phil Maples, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin.

Assumption Parish:

  1. Cal Oncale, 3579 Hwy 1 Napoleonville, LA., age 43, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous substance and was sentenced to 18 months in the Parish Jail with credit for time served.
  2. Ronald Washington Jr., 159 Hwy 1014 Labadieville, LA., age 24, pled guilty to Aggravated Assault and was sentenced to 1 year in the Parish Jail with credit for time served.
  3. Alvin Johnson, 7603 Oakmount Dr. Baton Rouge, LA., age 36, pled guilty to Forgery, Forgery of a Certificate of Insurance Identification Card, and Monetary Instrument Abuse. The defendant was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Alvin Turner Jr.

St. James Parish:

St. James Parish had no court news to report this week.
