Assumption Parish Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Battery

On September 25, 2017, Joe Alaniz Jr. of 117 Agnes St. Pierre Part, LA., age 58, pled guilty to the charge of Sexual Battery. Alaniz was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Alvin Turner Jr. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following accusations indicating that Alaniz was inappropriately touching a 14-year-old female.

On September 16, 2016, deputies with the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a Pierre Part residence in reference to a 14-year-old female being inappropriately touched by a male subject. During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Joe Alaniz Jr. had inappropriately touched the juvenile on multiple occasions prior to this complaint. A warrant of arrest was issued for Alaniz, and he was subsequently booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center.

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charge, as per the plea agreement with prosecutors, Judge Turner ordered that Alaniz be committed to the Louisiana Department of Corrections for a period of 4 years at hard labor with credit for time served. It was further ordered that this sentence is to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. Upon release from incarceration Alaniz must register and notify as a Sex Offender or Child Predator.
