Belle Rose Man Sentenced to 40 Years for Illegal Firearm Possession

Tarik Dupaty of 124 Dupaty Ln. Belle Rose, LA, age 25, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon (2 counts). Dupaty was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge James Kuhn. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors in connection with a 2021 shooting incident in Assumption Parish.

On May 27, 2021, Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a farming area near Belle Rose in reference to a shooting incident. Upon arrival, deputies learned that an individual was traveling the area in a pick-up truck when an individual riding an off-road vehicle fired a gun at the truck. The projectile shattered the windows of the truck, and the driver sustained minor injuries from the broken glass. Detectives were able to identify the shooter as Tarik Dupaty. Dupaty was subsequently arrested and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center. Dupaty has been previously convicted of Aggravated Flight from an Officer.

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charges, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, the defendant was sentenced to 40 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
