Donaldsonville Man Pleads Guilty to Simple Burglary and Crimes Against Nature

Last week, Kirk Gibson of 1407 McKinley Aly Donaldsonville, LA, age 33, pled guilty to Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling and Crimes Against Nature in two unrelated cases. Gibson was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Blake Sheets, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors.

On July 10, 2023, detectives with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office began investigating a residential burglary in the Darrow community. Detectives were able to obtain video surveillance footage which showed a male subject approaching the residence and knocking on the entry door. When there was no answer at the door, the suspect walked around the residence and attempted to manipulate the exterior lock of the rear door in effort to gain entry into the residence. Through further investigation, detectives were able to identify the suspect as Kirk Gibson. An arrest warrant was obtained for Gibson who was arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.

On November 26, 2023, detectives began investigating the sexual assault of a male inmate inside the Ascension Parish Jail. During the course of the investigation, detectives ultimately arrested Kirk Gibson, who was still incarcerated for the previous mentioned arrest, for his involvement in the sexual assault.

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charges, pursuant to the plea agreement with prosecutors, Kirk Gibson was formally sentenced.

On the charge of Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling, Gibson was sentenced to 6 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

On the charge of Crimes Against Nature, Gibson was sentenced to 15 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. This sentence is to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant must register and notify as a sex offender for life.

The said sentences are to run concurrent with one another.
