SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of August 12 – August 16, 2024, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish: 

  1. Michael Stein, 17487 Meadow Ridge Circle Prairieville, LA, age 49, pled guilty to Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Corey Bassett, 39248 Germany Rd. Prairieville, LA, age 20, pled guilty to Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Jericho Jerez, 12047 Norwood Dr. Prairieville, LA, age 39, pled guilty to Attempted Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and was sentenced to 7 ½ years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Micah Wiley, 15089 Cathedral Oak Dr. Prairieville, LA, age 19, pled guilty to Theft of a Motor Vehicle (2 counts), Simple Burglary, and Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities. The defendant was sentenced to 4 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.    
  1. Bryan Cage, 6132 Woodbend Dr. Zachary, LA, age 39, pled guilty to 2nd Degree Battery and Hit and Run Driving. The defendant was sentenced to 7 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 3 years of the said sentence are to be served, and the remaining 4 years are to be suspended. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant is to be placed on 3 years supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Phillip Prescott, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets. 

  1. On April 16, 2024, Jarvis McNair Sr. of 1942 S Ringer Ave Gonzales, LA, age 33, pled guilty to Manslaughter. Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. On August 13, 2024, McNair was sentenced to 30 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Phil Maples, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin. 

Assumption Parish: 

  1. Shareafa Watkins, 1210 Winder Rd. Thibodaux, LA, age 35, pled guilty to Stalking and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Roller Avila, 35488 Preston Lane Donaldsonville, LA, age 20, pled guilty to Armed Robbery and was sentenced to 40 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 27 years of the said sentence are to be served, and the remaining 13 years are to be suspended. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant is to be placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Frances Porche, 105 Edward Porch Ct. Gibson, LA, age 54, pled guilty to DWI 1st Offense and Introducing or Possessing Contraband in any Municipal or Parish Prison or Jail. The defendant was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 1-year supervised probation.   
  1. Lucy Kay Oliver, 1025 N Coolidge Ave. Gonzales, LA, age 38, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.

 Larry Moore, 419 Shoal Dr. Houma, LA, age 49, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Thomas Kliebert. 

St. James Parish: 

  1. MannDarryl Walters, 3744 Brandy Lane Paulina, LA, age 41, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance (4 counts) and was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Shawnchez Lemar, 1522 Old Vacherie St. Vacherie, LA, age 23, pled guilty to Illegal Discharge of a Firearm from a Vehicle and Simple Burglary. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
