SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of December 18-December 22, 2017, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

  1. Joseph Baldwin, 17227 Carpenters Chapel Rd. Prairieville, LA., age 31, pled guilty to the charges of Aggravated Assault, Simple Burglary, Felony Theft, Illegal Possession of Stolen Things, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The defendant was sentenced, pursuant to a plea agreement with prosecutors, to a total of 25 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, 20 years of which are to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Robin O’Bannon, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jessie LeBlanc.

  1. Damien Hardin, 913 Quiett Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 24, pled guilty to Felony Domestic Abuse Battery and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.
  2. Charles Richard, 101 Pugh St. Paincourtville, LA., age 26, pled guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Possession or Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution, Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Aggravated Flight from an Officer. The defendant was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  3. Reece Breaux, 9306 Kurt Kurdler Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 26, pled guilty to Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  4. Buddy Dorsey, 3120 Robinson Lane Donaldsonville, LA., age 51, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 6 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  5. Damien Straughter, Weyonoke, LA., age 19, pled guilty to Auto Burglary and Illegal Possession of Stolen Things. The defendant was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  6. Reid Taber, 40097 Hwy 42 Prairieville, LA., age 19, pled guilty to Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and was sentenced to 8 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  7. Cathy Phillip, 2428 S Burnside Ave. Gonzales, LA., age 24, pled guilty to Conspiracy to Commit Possession or Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution and Attempted Monetary Instrument Abuse. The defendant was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  8. Jeremy Stephens, 45179 Stringer Bridge Rd. St. Amant, LA., age 34, pled guilty to Simple Robbery and Resisting an Officer with Force or Violence. The defendant was sentenced to 7 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation.
  9. Brian Gomez, 1430 Bonadona Ln. Donaldsonville, LA., age 43, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 6 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  10. Rudy Marquez, 9116 Great Smokey Ave. Baton Rouge, LA., age 20, pled guilty to Possession or Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Shawn Bush and Joni Buquoi. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Jessie LeBlanc.

 

Assumption Parish:

 

    1. Tevis Harvey, 1203 St. Vincent St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 28, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance. Sentencing was deferred pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.
    2. Louis Simoneaux, 3579 Hwy 1 Napoleonville, LA., age 32, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities. The defendant was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count, to run concurrent with one another.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Daigle, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Thomas Kliebert.

 

St. James Parish:

    1. Jason Malbrough, 1432 Third St. Lutcher, LA., age 36, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule III Controlled Dangerous Substance and Attempted Possession or Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution. The defendant was sentenced to 4 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count, to run concurrent with one another.
    2. Demario Griffin, 158 East 27th St. Reserve, LA., age 27, pled guilty to Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and was sentenced to 5 years at hard labor with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. This sentence is to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
