SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of January 1-January 5, 2018, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, Parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

  1. Shane Corrent, 11079 Garrett Dr. Gonzales, LA., age 43, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 24 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count, to run concurrent with one another. The imposed sentence is to be suspended, and the defendant is to be placed on 24 months supervised probation.
  2. Dexter Brown, 1118 S Vista Ave. Gonzales, LA., age 24, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 month supervised probation.
  3. Ohara Nicholas, 8544 S St. Landry Gonzales, LA., age 29, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count, to run concurrent with one another. The imposed sentence is to be suspended, and the defendant is to be placed on 18 months supervised probation.
  4. St. Taurus Fowler, 1885 LeBlanc Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 23, pled guilty to Illegal Carrying of Weapons, Possession of a Schedule III Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count, to run concurrent with one another. The imposed sentence is to be suspended, and the defendant is to be placed on 18 months supervised probation.
  5. Verner Bradford, 6301 Hwy 308 Belle Rose, LA., age 22, pled guilty to Illegal Carrying of Weapons and Possession of a Legend Drug without Prescription or Order. The defendant was sentenced to 36 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 36 months supervised probation.
  6. Julie Jones, 1909 Airline Hwy Gonzales, LA., age 49, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation.
  7. Kaitlyn Whittington, 41152 CJ Courtney Dr. Gonzales, LA., age 26, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 4 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 4 years supervised probation.
  8. Dondrick Caine, 3331 Fort Myers Ave. Baton Rouge, LA., age 39, pled guilty to Human Trafficking and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  9. Karen Watson, 15913 Chickamauga St. Baton Rouge, LA., age 51, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 24 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 24 months supervised probation.
  10. Jessica Wasburn, 10029 Hwy 937 St. Amant, LA., age 30, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Charles “Chuck” Long and Robin O’Bannon. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg.

 Assumption Parish:

Assumption Parish had no court news to report this week.

St. James Parish:

  1. Scott Chauvin, 1636 2nd St. Lutcher, LA., age 31, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
