SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of February 26 – March 1, 2024, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

  1. Patrick Burnett, 507 Winterset Parkway Marietta, GA, age 30, pled guilty to Theft Valued at $1,000 or More, but Less than $5,000. The defendant was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended and placed on 1-year supervised probation. 
  1. Cain Soileau, 37313 Hwy 74 Geismar, LA, age 22, pled guilty to Attempted Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 8 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Phil Maples, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin.

Assumption Parish: 

  1. Michael Batiste, 5437 McClelland Dr. Baton Rouge, LA, age 37, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance (2 counts), Illegal Possession of Stolen Firearms (2 counts), and Aggravated Flight from an Officer. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  1. Travis Leonard, 3565 Riverstation Rd. Lottie, LA, age 33, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance and Illegal Possession of Stolen Firearms. The defendant was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Lionel Mitchell, 129 Cancienne Rd. Labadieville, LA, age 61, pled guilty to Aggravated Assault and was sentenced to 1 year with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Julie Troxclair, 137 Riverbend St. Pierre Part, LA, age 70, pled guilty to Illegal Transmission of Monetary Funds, Computer Fraud, Bank Fraud, Identity Theft, and Theft Valued at $5,000 or More, but Less than $25,000. The defendant was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Keyojuan Turner. 

  1. Jerome Smith, 208 French Ct. Lafayette, LA, age 33, pled guilty to Attempted Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Antonio Valdez Jr.. 180 South Cherywood Ln. Pearl River, LA, age 32, pled guilty to Aggravated Flight from an Officer and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Jovian Clark, 182 Friendship Alley Amelia, LA, age 42, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Dangerous Substance. The defendant was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Tammy Lucas, 3418 Hwy 1 Napoleonville, LA, age 47, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Daigle, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets. 

St. James Parish: 

  1. Mason Haydel, 126 S Apple St. Garyville, LA, age 21, pled guilty to Aggravated Flight from an Officer and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation.
