Napoleonville Man Found Guilty of Aggravated Battery in Connection with 2023 Shooting

On last week, an Assumption Parish Jury found 56-year-old Kevin Carter of 174 Belle Point Lane, Napoleonvile, LA, guilty of Aggravated Battery. Carter was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Daigle, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets. This guilty verdict comes following a 2023 shooting incident in the Village of Napoleonville.

On February 26, 2023, Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence in the Village of Napoleonville in reference to a shooting. Before arriving on scene, deputies located the victim walking nearby and made contact. Deputies observed the victim to have suffered two gunshot wounds to the body. The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was treated for his injuries and ultimately released. During the course of this investigation, detectives learned that the victim had gotten into a verbal altercation with Kevin Carter at a gathering moments before the shooting. The victim made an attempt to leave the argument and went into the residence. This was when Carter went into the residence and fired two gunshots striking the victim. Detectives obtained a warrant of arrest for Kevin Carter who was subsequently apprehended and booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center.

Upon the jury rendering a guilty verdict in this matter, sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. Kevin Carter faces up to 10 years in state prison.
