SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of January 16-January 20, 2017, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James

Ascension Parish: 

  1. Jesse Culpepper, 45552 Hwy 936 St. Amant, LA., age 39, pled guilty to Domestic Abuse Aggravated Assault (2 counts) and was sentenced to 4 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served on each count. The imposed sentences are to run consecutive to one another. It was further ordered that the imposed sentences are to be suspended, and the defendant is to be placed on 5 years supervised probation.                 
  2. Leigh Ann Davis Ganaway, 13455 KC Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 35, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  3. Cory Borne, 12105 Chester Braud Rd. St. Amant, LA., age 30, pled guilty to Attempted Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Joni Buquoi and Steven Tureau. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Jessie LeBlanc.  

  1. Blaine Bazile, 41083 Courtney Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 35, pled guilty to Simple Criminal Damage to Property over $500 and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation. It was further ordered that the defendant must pay restitution to the victims in the amount of $30,000.

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kenneth Dupaty, and presiding over this case was the Honorable Judge Alvin Turner Jr.  

  1. James Miles, 502 Front St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 39, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance (2 counts). Sentencing was deferred pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. 

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lindsey Manda, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Tess Stromberg.  

Assumption Parish: 

          Assumption Parish had no court news to report this week. 

St. James Parish: 

  1. Hannah Davis, 2206 Rome St. Paulina, LA., age 29, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation. 
  2. Bennie Engel, 2206 Rome St. Paulina, LA., age 31, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 8 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation.
