SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of January 22 – January 26, 2024, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish: 

  1. Carolyn Duncan, 14405 Ben Jones Rd. Denham Springs, LA, age 39, pled guilty to Simple Burglary, Theft of a Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Jason James, 14405 Ben Jones Rd. Denham Springs, LA, age 49, pled guilty to Simple Burglary, Theft of a Firearm, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Moranda Macklin, 38524 Lakeshore Village Slidell, LA, age 38, pled guilty to Monetary Instrument Abuse and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Devontae Smith, 214 W Second St. Donaldsonville, LA, age 31, pled guilty to Attempted Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and was sentenced to 4 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Clifton Thames, 12488 Laurel Ridge Rd. Saint Amant, LA, age 33, pled guilty to Unauthorized Entry into a Critical Infrastructure and Simple Burglary. The defendant was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  1. Kristian Willis, 44444 Braud Rd. Sorrento, LA, age 31, pled guilty to Forgery and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Phil Maples and Brant Mayer. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Cody Martin. 

Assumption Parish: 

  1. Chrissy Thomas, 1071 Canal Blvd Thibodaux, LA, age 43, pled guilty to Theft of Identity and Bank Fraud. The defendant was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 3 years of the said sentence are to be served, and the remaining 7 years are to be suspended. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant is to be placed on 3 years supervised probation. 
  1. Lones Guillot, 4471 Hwy 308 Napoleonville, LA, age 45, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation. 
  1. Ivory Rivere, 1641 Hwy 402 Napoleonville, LA, age 37, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation. 
  1. Shawn Sanders, 1301 Hwy 402 Napoleonville, LA, age 50, pled guilty to Theft Valued at $1,000 or More, but Less than $5,000 and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation. 
  1. Cycoi Brown, 128 Marietta St. Houma, LA, age 22, pled guilty to Illegal Possession of Stolen Firearms and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 18 months supervised probation. 
  1. Mickey Simmons, 800 Pine St. Donaldsonville, LA, age 36, pled guilty to Attempted Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and was sentenced to 7 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 2 years of the said sentence are to be served, and the remaining 5 years are to be suspended. Upon release from incarceration, the defendant is to be placed on 3 years supervised probation. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Daigle, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets. 

  1. Donald Bolden, 100 Stadium Dr. Houma, LA, age 43, pled guilty to DWI 4th Offense, Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance, Open Container, Speeding, and Expired MVI. Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. 

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Lana Chaney, and presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Keyojuan Gant-Turner. 

St. James Parish:
