SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of June 6-June 10, 2016, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

St. James Parish:

1. Joseph Toups, 533 LA 308 Thibodaux, LA., age 48, pled guilty to Insurance Fraud and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.

2. Penny Schexnayder, 1151 LA 18 Vacherie, LA., age 53, pled guilty to Principal to Insurance Fraud and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.

3. Christopher Tapp, 3137 Mt. Bethel St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 28, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 4 years supervised probation.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Steven Tureau. The presiding judge was the Honorable Judge Thomas Kliebert.

Ascension Parish:

Ascension Parish had no court news to report this week.

Assumption Parish:
