SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of November 28-December 2, 2016, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

  1. William Simoneaux, 39513 Rue Royale Rd. Prairieville, LA., age 38, pled guilty to Domestic Abuse Battery and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 
  2. Santos Torrez, 40436 Kathy St. Gonzales, LA., age 53, pled guilty to DWI 3rd Sentencing was deferred pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.
  3. Lakeisha Marshall, 1305 McKinly St. Donaldsonville, LA., age 36, pled guilty on September 12, 2016 to Failure to Register as a Sex Offender. Sentencing was deferred pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. On November 28, 2016, Judge Kliebert sentenced the defendant to 8 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  4. Kurt Southerland, 8209 Mills St. St. James, LA., age 38, pled guilty on August 23, 2016 to DWI 3rd Sentencing was deferred pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. On November 28, 2016, Judge Kliebert sentenced Southerland to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended. It was ordered that the defendant serve 1 year of jail time, and upon release be placed on 2 years supervised probation. 
  5. Alvin Valentine, 14340 Oak Meadow St. Gonzales, LA., age 56, pled guilty on October 24, 2016 to Felony Theft. Sentencing was deferred pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. On November 28, 2016, Judge Kliebert sentenced the defendant to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. 

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Shawn Bush and Phil Maples. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Thomas Kliebert.

Assumption Parish:

  1. Trent Giroir, 1069 Tower Tank Rd. Stevensville, LA., age 19, pled guilty to Principal to Aggravated Burglary and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that 3 years of the imposed sentence are to be suspended, and the defendant is to serve the remaining 2 years. Upon release, the defendant is to be placed on 3 years supervised probation.

The above case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Thomas Daigle, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets.

St. James Parish:

  1. Frederick Woods, 222 S Cherry St. Gramercy, LA., age 49, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 5 years supervised probation.
