SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

During the week of September 14 – September 18, 2020, the following defendants pled guilty to various charges and were sentenced in the 23rd Judicial District Court, parishes of Ascension, Assumption, and St. James.

Ascension Parish:

  1. Mickel Guist, 46402 Family Acres Rd. St. Amant, LA., age 56, pled guilty to Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and was sentenced to 18 months with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  2. Harden Lewis Jr., 6027 Hwy 308 Belle Rose, LA., age 21, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 6 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  3. Seiervan Ursin, 11232 Roddy Rd. Gonzales, LA., age 25, pled guilty to Simple Burglary and was sentenced to 6 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
  4. Drequan Hooper, 7176 Chisholm Ave. Baton Rouge, LA., age 19, pled guilty to Simple Burglary (2 counts) and was sentenced to 2 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation.
  5. Chase Roper, 13164 Leo Lambert Rd. St. Amant, LA., age 31, pled guilty to Hit and Run Driving and was sentenced to 3 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 2 years supervised probation. 
  6. On March 9, 2020, Robert Horrell of 1201 Hunter Crossing Bossier City, LA., age 42, pled guilty to Engaging in Business of Contracting without Authority and Home Improvement Fraud. Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. On September 14, 2020, Horrell was sentenced to 6 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served, to be suspended, and placed on 3 years supervised probation. Restitution is to be paid out during the probation period.
  7. On March 9, 2020, Jeremy Mitchell of 28250 Hwy 405 Plaquemine, LA., age 34, pled guilty to DWI 3rd Offense. Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. On September 14, 2020, Mitchell was sentenced to 5 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. It was ordered that Mitchell serve 30 days without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence. The remainder of the said sentence is to be suspended, and Mitchell is required to undergo substance abuse treatment and serve 12 months on home incarceration along with standard probation conditions.

The above cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Leila Braswell and Maeghen Kling. Presiding over these matters was the Honorable Judge Jason Verdigets.  

Assumption Parish:

Assumption Parish had no court news to report this week.

St. James Parish:

  1. Kolby Louque, 1342 2nd St. Lutcher, LA., age 29, pled guilty to Theft Valued at $1,000 or More, but Less than $5,000. Sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.
  2. Keith Clark, 1448 Lutcher Ave. Lutcher, LA., age 38, pled guilty to Simple Burglary (10 counts) and Theft of a Firearm (4 counts). Sentencing was deferred to the court pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation. The defendant was sentenced to 8 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served.
