Gonzales Man Pleads Guilty to Drug and Weapon Charges

On February 27, 2018, Mickey Sanchez of 38133 Stanley Ave. Gonzales, LA., age 51, pled guilty to Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule II Controlled Dangerous Substance and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Sanchez was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Shawn Bush, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Thomas Kliebert. This guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement with prosecutors following a 2017 theft investigation.

On January 24, 2017, detectives with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on Sanchez’s residence as part of an ongoing theft investigation. During a search of Sanchez’s residence, detectives located a quantity of methamphetamine along with miscellaneous items associated with the packaging and sale of illegal narcotics. Detectives also located a .44 caliber pistol. Sanchez, who has a prior felony conviction for narcotics possession, was subsequently arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Jail.

Upon entering a guilty plea to the above-mentioned charges, as per the plea agreement with prosecutors, Sanchez was sentenced to 10 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for times served. The said sentence is to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
