On March 19, 2016, an Ascension Parish jury found 23-year-old Nathan Curry of Gonzales guilty of 2nd Degree Murder in connection with the 2012 shooting death of 18-year-old Davonne Solomon, of Donaldsonville. Curry was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Kenneth Dupaty, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Alvin Turner.
On March 10, 2012, officers with the Gonzales Police Department responded to the area of Amber St. in Gonzales in reference to a shooting which took place during a large fight following a party at the Geismar Community Center. Upon arrival, officers learned that two subjects suffered gunshot wounds during the altercation that was believed to be between a group of individuals from Donaldsonville and a second group from Gonzales. A short while later, Davonne Solomon, who suffered from a gun-shot wound to the chest, was pronounced deceased at a local hospital. The second victim, who was shot in the arm, was treated and released by doctors. Detectives canvassed the scene and interviewed numerous potential witnesses. Detectives were able to identify Nathan Curry as the shooter, and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Curry subsequently turned himself in to the Gonzales Police Department and was booked into the Ascension Parish Detention Center.
Upon the jury rendering a guilty verdict in this matter, sentencing was deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.
On August 21, 2018, Curry appeared before Judge Turner for sentencing. It was ordered that Curry be committed to the Louisiana Department of Corrections for life. The said sentence is to be served without benefit of parole, probation, or suspension of sentence.
