SERVING ASCENSION, ASSUMPTION & ST. JAMES PARISHES

Prairieville Man Found Guilty of Illegal Use of Weapons

On August 28, 2018, an Ascension Parish Jury found Kenneth White of 43395 Moody Dixon Rd. Prairieville, LA., age 44, guilty of Illegal Use of Weapons or Dangerous Instrumentalities. Assistant District Attorney Phil Maples was the lead prosecutor on this case, and presiding over this matter was the Honorable Judge Thomas Kliebert. This guilty verdict comes after a 2017 complaint of a male subject firing high-powered firearms in a residential area of Prairieville.

On July 14, 2017, deputies with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Moody Dixon Rd. in Prairieville after receiving complaints of gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the complainants who identified Kenneth White as the individual firing the weapons. While speaking to the complainants, deputies heard multiple gunshots coming from the area of White’s residence. Shortly after, deputies made contact with White who appeared to be extremely intoxicated. During a brief interview, White admitted to firing weapons in his yard and showed the deputies where the weapons were fired. It was determined that the weapons were fired in close proximity of several homes within 100-200 yards with no berm or barricade in place to deflect the bullets. While searching the area pointed out by White, deputies located multiple spent shell casings from large caliber weapons including assault style rifles. At this time deputies detained White and seized firearms associated with the calibers of the spent shell casings located on White’s property. White was subsequently arrested and booked into the Ascension Parish Detention Center.

Upon the jury rendering a guilty verdict in this matter, Judge Kliebert ordered that sentencing be deferred to a later date pending a Pre-Sentence Investigation.
